Individual confesses to sexual offenses involving boys at summer camp
A man who laced candy with sedative and gave them to youngsters at a youth camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two children both nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in July.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Yet, he denied one particular crime he was facing, which was against a young boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, handling the case, described the defendant's actions to the court.
She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.
Ruben engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, the legal counsel explained, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She told the court the man had conducted this practice with the children "repeatedly", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She said the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had suspicions in July 2025.
The legal representative added: "In the summer" his stepson had concerns about what was going on, for good reason.
"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor stated materials including infant oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were located, and his stepchild notified the law enforcement about his concerns.
She stated Ruben went on to conduct the "sweet game" with six children that time - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the events.
Mrs Prior stated the minors were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the stepson notified the police again.
She explained the man then conducted the "treat game" in a room of five children.
